DRIVING IN HUNGARY
Hungary has a mostly well-maintained road system including motorways, some of which are toll roads. Dipped headlamps must be used at all times outside built-up areas. Main beam should not be used when driving in town, and the horn is not permitted in town except in an emergency. Look out for horse-drawn carts in rural areas, especially after dark when they may be unlit. If your car sustains damaged bodywork you must obtain a certificate from the police. Carrying fuel in a can is not permitted. Do not drink any alcohol at all before driving. Always give way to trams and buses at junctions and when they are pulling out from the kerb, and pass railway crossings at a walking pace. Vehicles left in a no-parking zone will be removed.
